SUMMARY:Cancer "Survive & Thrive" Programme (Dates to be finalised by 31st August 2021
DESCRIPTION:This autumn\, the Hope Cancer Support Centre will facilitate the running of the Cancer Thriving & Surviving Programme. This is a Self-Management Programme\, developed by Stanford University\, for those who have completed their cancer treatment and it has also proved useful to carers. Feedback from the programme\, which has been delivered all over the country\, has been overwhelmingly positive. \n  \nThe Cancer Thriving & Surviving Programme offers you a sense of confidence and an opportunity to develop self-management skills when moving on from your cancer treatment. Participants play an active role in the sessions\, and learn skills to help deal with issues such as managing frustration\, fatigue and pain; setting priorities; making decisions and getting better sleep. \nDue to the Covid-19 pandemic\, the Hope Centre will be offering this programme online through Zoom. \nThe normal programme is 6 sessions of approx. 2.5hrs. There is an extra session at the start of the online programme that lasts around 40mins. This is to give participants an overview of the programme and to iron out any technical issues. To join the programme\, participants will need an email address\, a strong internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer. A tablet or smart phone could be used but a laptop or desktop computer is recommended. Dates for the programme will be finalised at the end of August 2021. Anyone interested in participating can contact Mary at the Hope Centre at 053 9238555 \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Go Fund Me Page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/cycle-for-hope-phil-lynch-sue-karran?qid=9253071a459c0ad66016bb309c4322d6&utm_campaign=p_cp_url&utm_medium=os&utm_source=customer \n  \nPhil Lynch and Sue Karran are keen cyclists and members of Soroptimist International Wexford\, taking on this exciting challenge to help raise funds for the centre. \nPhil was a nurse for many years and with her supportive\, compassionate nature she understands how important the services of the centre are for people living with cancer. \nSue was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and although she didn’t use the services of the centre she knows how important it is to have good support when the dread ‘C’ becomes a life-changing reality. \nOver the past few years\, Phil and Sue have independently taken part in various charity cycle events but this year due to  Covid all events have been cancelled. This has had a dramatic impact on funds raised for organisations like the Hope Centre and we want to take on this challenge to try to help. \nPhil and Sue will start from Wexford Quay each day at 9.30 and cycle various 60K+ routes within Wexford County… Come\, rain\, wind or shine we will go out! \nWe hope you can support us in any way you can\, however small. \nPhil & Sue

SUMMARY:Webinar on "Exploring Sexuality and Intimacy after a cancer diagnosis"
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to let you know Cork ARC Cancer Support House are hosting a ‘Exploring Sexuality and Intimacy after a Cancer Diagnosis’ Webinar that will take place on Wednesday 26th May from 10am-12pm.  \nCancer and the treatments used for cancer can impact how a woman feels about her body\, her sexuality\, her attractiveness and her confidence with being intimate. This is very often because of physical challenges such as pain\, scarring\, loss of how a body part looked\, and sometimes the loss of a body part\, or a body function\, some surgeries\, and some of the treatments can change your natural ability and ease to be intimate with a partner and have sexual intercourse. The other side effects of fatigue\, low mood and energy\, low libido\, altered body image\, anxiety and fear add to the psychological and emotional effects for a woman and how she feels about herself. \nThe impact of all the above brings challenges to a woman’s close relationships\, and intimacy can be a very real struggle. It can hamper a woman in regaining a sense desire and that feeling of being alive\, very often at a time when that close intimate connection is really needed. \nSexual intercourse and intimacy issues are often difficult topics for many and sexual dysfunction remains under diagnosed and under treated. However communicating about these issues is the first step in dealing with them. That is why we are bringing you this Webinar. You will hear from Yvonne O’Meara\, a systemic psychotherapist and psychosocial oncologist\, and Orla McCarthy\, a women’s physiotherapist who both have a special interest and a wealth of experience in helping women with these problems. \n \nTo register: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/2902992587255488524 \n
